Seeking Museum Trustees

Voluntary Trustee Position

We are seeking new Trustees! Could you be part of the team leading Wycombe Museum into the future with local partners and communities to ensure a sustainable local museum for everyone?

Wycombe Museum (or ‘The Chair Museum’) is a long-established and much-loved institution in our Buckinghamshire town of High Wycombe. Founded in 1875, the Museum was run by Wycombe District Council for many years, before their decision in 2016 to transition it as an independent charity. We have since worked tirelessly with partners to run a free museum for local people, children, schools and community groups.

The charity running the Museum is Wycombe Heritage and Arts Trust (WHAT) with the Museum its only portfolio. As a Trustee you will be part of the dedicated group serving as members of our Board chaired by Guy Foreman. Museum operations are led by our Director, Roz Currie supported by her highly committed and able staff and volunteer team; together they run the Museum day-to-day.

Our current Board has created a sound foundation for the future. As a new Trustee you will build on their work to ensure Wycombe Museum continues to deliver its vision and strategy for local people.

WHAT Trustees are realistic about the challenges involved. These are difficult economic times for local heritage and culture, particularly for museums. Building financial sustainability has been a strong Board focus for the last five years. Your role as a Trustee will be to support and safeguard the Museum in navigating its path to resilience and sustainability at the same time, broadening its reach and impact.

As for all our Trustees, these are voluntary and therefore unpaid roles.
