Wycombe Museum is hiring:
Museum Director
Part-time, 30 hours per week, days to be agreed
Permanent contract
Salary: £37,800 p.a. (FTE £47,250)
It is a very exciting time to join Wycombe Museum, taking it on the next phase of its journey as an independent charity and building towards a sustainable future. Since becoming a charitable trust in 2016 Wycombe Museum has faced many challenges, in common with many other small local museums. However, following the hard work of the team for the last five years the museum is in a good position for the future. We are lucky to have a brilliant and engaged team of staff and volunteers who run the Museum day-to-day and who recently delivered our second ever community Chair Festival: a month long programme of collaborative events hosted with local partners. In July we opened our Chair Discovery Centre, a new accessible store to manage our remarkable and nationally significant chair collection. Plus we have a dedicated local trustee board who support the museum behind-the-scenes.
As our new Director you will be taking the museum on its next steps, crucially building future resilience in these difficult economic times, developing our audiences and consolidating our connections with local people and communities. We are a very small organisation so you will also be a key part of the staff team – delivering engagement, managing the site and health and safety, supporting the learning and curatorial teams and everything in between!
Wycombe Museum (or ‘The Chair Museum’) is a much-loved institution in the Buckinghamshire town of High Wycombe. Originally founded in 1875, we were run by Wycombe District Council for many years, but have been an independent charity since 2016. From then, we have worked hard to run a free museum for local people, local children and schools and partnering local community groups to create a sustainable local museum for everyone!
