Travels with My Chair – Mary Woodman, High Wycombe

“This chair came from Madagascar. It makes me smile whenever I look at it. I love its simplicity and elegance. It is simply two pieces of wood which slot together, easy to make and easy to transport. The simplicity of the design is reflected in the restrained geometric decoration. I use a cushion when sitting in it but the angle is very comfortable, well suited to chats or debates with the neighbours.

Senior village elders would have a more decorative chair. I carried it home in two parts as hand-luggage on an Aeroflot flight!”
