As part of the 2026 Chair Festival, Wycombe Museum will be taking over the We Make Wycombe Hub with a programme of hands-on activities, local history and fun for all ages.

Step into the story of High Wycombe’s famous Chair Arches — built just metres away from the hub itself — and discover how the town celebrated its furniture-making heritage in spectacular style.

During your visit:
– Learn more about the historic Chair Arches and the historic chairs of High Wycombe
– Meet the teams from Bucks Archive and Wycombe Museum at special pop-up sessions
– Help build our very own community Chair Arch
– Try creative crafts and drawing activities inspired by chairs, design and local history

Whether you love our local history, want to do something creative or are looking for a free family activity, there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Come and celebrate Wycombe’s chair-making heritage with us!

Chair Festival

This event is part of Wycombe Museum’s 2026 Chairs Festival, running through July in celebration of the unique chairmaking heritage of Wycombe and the local area. With a varied programme of events, you’ll learn how the industry grew from the local landscape into thriving furniture production which proudly continues today. The festival is also celebrating the grand opening of Wycombe Museum’s new chair store, the Chair Discovery Centre. Join us to celebrate the stories, the chairs and the surroundings which make up our history.

The Chair Festival is being organised by Wycombe Museum with funding support from Opportunity Bucks, Rotshchild Foundation, and We Make Wycombe.
