The Storm painting by Harold Knight - a group of villages dressed in shades of brown look on and point at something apparently shocking happening out of frame

Event Details

This atmospheric painting from around 1900 by Harold Knight (husband of the more famous Dame Laura Knight) was painted in Staithes, a small fishing village on the coast of North Yorkshire, which became home to around forty artists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Why did Staithes attract artists, what was the relationship between  artists and villagers, and how did Staithes influence the Knights’ later work?

An illustrated talk by artist and art historian Cally Trench.
