With children and teachers heading back to the classroom this month, September’s Chair of the Month is this teacher’s chair.

It is a Windsor chair with lath back and foot-rest, made in about 1910 and used in Bell Street School, Princes Risborough. Classes were much larger then and often included children of all ages – up to the leaving age of 12 – so the teacher needed a tall seat to see what was going on!

This chair can be viewed in the chair galleries at Wycombe Museum, with free entry to all galleries.

A light-coloured wooden chair with long legs and a foot-rest. The chair is against a white background with a wood-grain texture effect.

Chair of the Month is a partnership between Wycombe Museum and the Regional Furniture Society.
