This large oil painting shows the biblical figure Lazarus, who had been dead for four days before being brought back to life by Jesus. Joachim Wtewael was a Dutch painter and merchant, whose work focused on religious and mythological subjects.
The Raising of Lazarus is currently on loan to The National Gallery, who kindly restored it to use in their displays. You can visit The Raising of Lazarus in Room 24 of The National Gallery, and you can watch a video about their restoration of the painting below.
