school services

We have learning sessions tailored to suit Foundation Stage, and Key Stages 1 & 2. They comprise of hands-on workshop led activities, exploration of the Museum’s galleries, and craft activities. They are an ideal way to introduce a topic or reinforce class work and provide an interactive and memorable experience. Have a look at our designated pages for each age group to find out about the sessions we offer. For sessions marked with an asterisk, you have the option of choosing between having the session delivered either at the Museum or your school, whilst sessions without are Museum exclusives.

Our sessions aim to:

  • Stimulate active learning with real objects;
  • Offer elements of role play and dressing up;
  • Encourage pupils to develop their critical thinking and enquiry skills;
  • Provide elements of make and take;
  • Challenge and motivate staff as well as pupils;
  • Meet the needs of the creative curriculum;
  • Offer a reliable and flexible visit experience.

‘Great energy, inspiration, and knowledge shown by Maddy and Ceri. We really loved that the sessions encompassed many areas of the curriculum – history, literacy, reading and role play, art and DT. We had a great day – thank you!’

‘I visited the museum with two year 6 classes and the museum organised two workshops for us. They were both excellent. In the morning the children got to dress up as Victorians and put on a little play. They were told about the making of chairs in High Wycombe and were shown a variety of tools and accessories. In the afternoon the museum organised a very informative visit of the town. I along with the kids learnt a great deal.’

‘We had a lovely time and learnt loads. The facilities are fantastic and you pitched the learning at their level. I loved the variety of activities you provided. Ending the day with the craft session is exactly what ‘the doctor ordered’.
We have been to other museums but much prefer what you provided us with. Well done to all involved. Thank you ever so much. Having the café there for a much loved cuppa is an absolute bonus for teachers and support staff.’

Year 4 Teacher

“A brilliant trip today – a mark of how much the children enjoyed it was that they were still comparing the different role-play characters and their jobs back at school!”
